misstreebc: Fatty and the dust storm

After days of watching the Pete's pond cam, I finally saw Fatty, early this morning my time (about 3:30 a.m.), which translates to about 12:30 p.m. Pete's Pond time.

He just made a brief appearance on the beach, as far as I could tell.

I saw the dust storm at about that time as well. It came rolling over the horizon, even obscuring bushes in the mid distance.

I usually see elephants in the pond during the heat of the day, but I'm assuming that the dust storm drove them away.

I have seen the elephants tonight, about 3/4 - 1/2 hour ago. (at about 9:15 pm Pete's Pond time.)

So far elephants are the only thing I've been able to make out clearly on the night cam, although there are quick flickers of what might be birds or animal eyes. (Possibly jackals?)

Well, back to the pond! I'm hooked!!!!

Darn, I missed Fatty this morning. I did see him take a snap at an unsuspecting warthog a few days ago, though. I'm sure Warty is going to look twice before he wallows from now on.

The dust storm was really something. I watched for a bit last night my time (early morning Botswana time) and the birds were scurrying around like they were being blown by the wind.

Interesting that you see the elephants mid-day. I don't get to watch during that time, but I do see them with the night-vision cam. It's weird to see a big herd in the middle of the night. I just assumed they'd be resting, but they seem to visit the pond at all hours.
